Bracelets

This was made from chestnut and white tail hair, In a round braid, with sterling silver wire ends, beads and clasp, and Genuine Swarovski Crystal™ beads.	Chestnut tail in a 5 strand flat braid, with sterling silver wire ends, flat beads and clasp, with genuine mauve freshwater pearls.

Minimum amount of Hair Required (approx):

*Note: 200 strands of hair are smaller than the diameter of a pencil. For best results, try to gather an amount about the diameter of a Slim Jim. Hairs less than the minimum lengths must be discarded, as they will cause loose ends to stick up and make the item feel prickly.

Bracelet, (5/6 mm diameter 4 strand round braid): One color - 200 strands of hair, 16 inches long.
Bracelet, (5/6 mm diameter, 4 strand round braid): Two colors - 150 strands of each color, 16 inches long.
Bracelet, (6/7 mm wide flat 5 strand braid): One color - 200 strands of hair 18” long.
Bracelet, (6/7 mm wide flat 5 strain braid): Two colors - 150 strands of each color, 18” long.
Necklace, (5/6 mm diameter, 4 strand round braid): One color - 200 strands of hair, 24” long for 16” necklace, 28” long for 18” necklace.

Sometimes I can make a slightly shorter necklace or bracelet from shorter lengths of hair if the above lengths are not available. I can also add length to an undersized item with beads on the ends, etc.

Procedure For Collecting Hair:

You do not need to wash or disinfect the tail prior to shipping the hair to me for making jewelry. I will wash, disinfect, and condition the hair myself.

Pull 2 to 3 of the longest strands at a time of tail hair that meet the length requirements above for the item of jewelry. Continue this until you have the quantity needed. This will not hurt the horse.

An alternative method would be to grab hold of 8 to 10 strands of the longest tail hair that meets the length requirements stated above for the item of jewelry. Brush away the short pieces and cut next to the tail bone. Continue taking from different areas until you have the quantity specified above for the item of jewelry.

You will not notice the missing hairs by supplying only a few of the longest hairs from different areas around the tail.

Be careful so hair does not tangle or knot.
Keep hair from more that one horse in separate bundles.
Tie one end of each bundle with a rubber band.
Coil loosely and place each bundle into a separate plastic bag.
Tag or mark each bag with the name of the breed, full name of the horse and nick name of horse. This information may be incorporated into the presentation package.
